Open with intention: situating equity pedagogy within open education to advance social justice

Purpose This paper is intended to contextualize the major themes of special issue, “The Intersections Open Education and Equity Pedagogy” in Journal for Multicultural , by providing a brief history open educational resources (OER) practices (OEP) highlighting growing focus on social justice within field. The purpose this generate discussions around potential OER OEP increase equity education. Design/methodology/approach featured summarizes reviews OEP, discusses integration pedagogy education, elaborates rationale process developing issue concludes identifying challenges ongoing conversations field as response need action. Findings Despite increasing acceptance OER, educators are not aware how implement with mind. As continue expand, teachers across all sectors examples teach effectively these practices. There also rising culturally relevant sustaining teaching practices, which can complement.
